License Options

The primary distinction is one of private vs. public use. There are currently three licenses available for Past Masters databases. These licenses are owned and not leased. Once the appropriate license requirement is determined, select the appropriate delivery platform to determine which price should be used for each title of interest:

1. Individual [Private use]
2. Institution [Public use - LAN with two simultaneous users]
3. Campus-wide [Public use - campus-wide]

1.

Individual License (Private Use)

If the database is for your own private use, use the individual price structure. The Individual license allows one person to use the database(s) on a personal computer. Any combination of titles can be placed on a single CD-ROM disc.

The listing of released titles and forthcoming titles can be used to locate the information page for a specific title of interest. Simply add the prices of the titles of interest from the Individual column to determine the cost. Alternative title location pages can be found using the SiteIndex or the TitleFind page, which locates related titles of interest as well.

There is a one-time setup fee of $20 the first time you purchase a database.

2.

Institution License (Two-user LAN within a building)

If the database is for public use in the department or library, use the Institutional license. The Institution license allows the database to be installed on a Local Area Network (LAN) within a building with a limit of two simultaneous users.  Please note that this is not a Client/Server application. Network installation and restricted access are the responsibility of the local network administrator using the existing network infrastructure. We can provide technical support for a basic installation, but we are not able to provide specific network support.

As an alternative, the database can be installed on two separate LAN's with a limit of one simultaneous user per LAN. This might be a useful alternative if there is a LAN in the Library and another in the department.

There is a one-time setup fee of $50 when the first title is purchased.

If an Institution license is purchased, one duplicate copy of the CD-ROM (with any combination of purchased databases) may be requested for an additional $100.

“An easy-to-learn and -use but extremely powerful scholarly tool. I highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to do serious work...”

3. Campus-wide License (Unlimited network use on campus)

We offer a campus-wide site license which allows unlimited network access on the geographically-contiguous campus. This license is required either for access to the InteLex web server or for access to a university server.

The listing of released titles and forthcoming titles can be used to locate the information pages for specific titles of interest. Simply add the prices of the titles of interest from the appropriate column to determine the cost.  Alternative title location pages can be found using the SiteIndex or the TitleFind page, which locates related titles of interest as well.

Proxy server access is allowed for faculty, staff and students who have a valid university account. Campus-wide access to the databases can be provided as long as access is restricted to valid users. This can be accomplished in a number of ways, including: the InteLex web server; use of a local application server; or mounting of the SGML files on a local full-text server. Several of our databases are currently available in SGML format.

“[InteLex] Past Masters databases, on the other hand, include the text of highly-respected, complete, scholarly editions and translations, a strong search engine capable of searching across texts, and features such as textual notes and pagination. These factors, along with the reasonable pricing, makes [InteLex] Past Masters titles appealing to a broad user spectrum, from casual readers and undergraduates searching for an online version of a text to scholars performing high-level research.."
