Finding information is easy and represents
the real virtue of the tool. The powerful Folio VIEWS® search engine
can quickly find every word or phrase in the collection. Also, any
Boolean combination can be searched with immediate results.
As you type the word to be searched, an alphabetized list of every
word in the database keeps pace with you. The list displays the
six words before and after your search term, and adjusts as you
add more letters. This allows you to see whether there are variations
on your search term while you type. Also displayed as you type are
the number of records (paragraphs and footnotes) that contain the
word you have typed.

For example, type in "cave and plato" and see that there
are 137 records that contain "cave," 4312 records that
contain "Plato," and 39 which contain both. Other forms
of Plato include plato's, platon, platón, etc. Click "OK"
and the full text of the first occurrence of the term is displayed.
You will know immediately if you have misspelled a word, or if
it does not appear in the collection, because it will not show up
on the list. The word list is also an excellent reference tool since
it displays the variant spellings of every word in the collection.
Your searches can be as simple as a word or two, or you can combine
more powerful tools to widen or narrow your results.

Click on the "Next" button to see the second and subsequent
records containing both words in the search. "Previous"
takes you back to the prior record.
You may also use the table of contents view to help establish the
relevance of search results. The number of records which satisfy
the search are displayed next to the respective headings in which
they occur.

In this case, one of the 39 paragraphs which contain both "cave"
and "plato" occurs in Volume 30, in the Articles section,
in the article by H.S. Thayer. Clicking on the article title takes
you to the full text display of the article as shown above.
A contextual display showing words around hits may
be toggled on and off to further confirm the relevance of the items
found.
