POIESIS
POIESIS CD-ROM Archive - Query Templates

Query templates have been incorporated to facilitate particular kinds of searches. These templates allow you to find answers easily to interesting questions without having to learn the query syntax.

All three archive titles have an Article Template, which allows you to limit your search to articles by a particular author, or articles which have specific words in the title. In this case, Kant is typed into the Title box and all 14 articles with Kant in the title are immediately assembled. Click on the "OK" button to go to the first article.

Article Template

The "Next" button takes you to subsequent articles with Kant in the title. You can scroll through the article in its entirety just as you would in the print version. "Fair use" copying is as simple as blocking the text, then copying and pasting into another document.

The Review of Metaphysics database has a Search Particular Years Template, which allows any search term to be limited within a specific time frame. For example, the phrase "natural law" occurs in 231 paragraphs during the time frame between 1980 and 1989.

The Review of Metaphysics also has a Book Reviews Template, which is designed to limit searches to book reviews by author, title, publisher, or words in the review itself. In this case, all 199 book reviews about books published by Oxford University Press have been found.

The Periodicals and Dissertation Templates work in a similar fashion within The Review of Metaphysics collection. These convenient search tools make it easy for anyone to quickly locate items of particular interest.
